Traffic in Mumbai..Who Bothers Part2.

Somebody by the name of Sunil suggested me to use the Public/Cooperated Transport. Thanks for the advice, Sunil. I could not confirm, who he is?
Anyways, moving on from where I left and picking up the thread from Sunil, I feel that this country is truly a country of sages [or should I say impotent people who just pick up what is given to them] instead of being a country of Warriors who do not take the things lying down but fight for what is right.
Sunil intensd to say to give up the hopes of a better nation and move on whatever is available because that is the easiest thing to do than to fight the system.
Look, what the traffic Havaldars are doing.. standing away from their duty places. It is like this that if I am posted at Prakshgarh Bandra and instead of going to my Office I go to the Bandra Court. Will that be acceptable? If not, then how a Traffic Poilce standing away from his duty place is cosidered a right place of duty. In my opinion, the Traffic Poilce is more interested in collecting the fines than setting the Traffic in Order.
And Media is highlighting their achievements of collection of fines. The Collection at the Octroi should be a matter of concern for such issue. BUT the Traffic Policeshould be responsible for a well managed traffic and NOT for collection of fines.
You may agree with me that on a normal week day a traffic policemen is hardly seen on the roads. But come saturday and sunday and these executives would be seen in 'herds', several of them at one single place and they would be seen catching the persons after they have committed a mistake.
Why can't they take proactive action than to take a reactive action.
So this is my Second Suggestion that Traffic Policeman should be present at his duty point and manage the traffic in a better manner. The First One was to inculcate a sense of discipline on the road through various means like general awareness through Auto/Taxi Unions through hoardings and pamphlets and road shows etc.

Traffic in Mumbai. Who Bothers?

Travel on Mumbai Roads is Nightmare. A nightmare in the daytime. I used to travel by Car from Gokuldham-Goregaon (E) to Bandra (E), from 1991 to 2000, on the Western Express Highway. Then there were no Flyovers. There were numerous traffic Signals and it used to take about 1 Hour. In the year 2000, construction started on several Flyovers and it was a kind of torture but then we tolerated with the hope of a brighter tomorrow, hoping that the traffic sitution would improve as there would be no traffic signals. But the travel still took the same time. In 2004 we shifted to Thakur Complex, Kandivili (East). The work on Flyovers North of Goregaon started only in 2004 and again the Travel became a torture, with the roads getting widened. The Hills were being using a Chiesel (Practically) and it took years to cut the hill and widening the roads and making concrete roads and then making the flyovers, all at snails pace. Actully, even a snail would be faster that the speed of the work that was going on.
Then came the famous Skywalk project. Construction of a few small structures was undertaken with least regard to the inconvenience to the citizens. NObody Bothered, Really!
Now, the travel from Thkur Complex Signal to Kherwadi Signal is without a Signal and it takes 1 Hour of travel by the new gen Car.
From 1991 to 2011. In 20 years not a minute of improvement.
Is this the Nation that we say is shining...
A City where the Concrete Road cannot be made flat and has got bumps..
Now, the Big Question is Why THERE is no improvement.
When I analyse, day after day...I zero down the reason to indiscipline. The indiscipline of each road user. Especially the Auto Rickshaws and the Mobikes.
The Old 'khadkhad' Autos on their CNG Engines do not have enough power to move but they keep their Rickshaws in the middle of the Road thus blocking the traffic.
If these Rickshaws become concerned enough and disciplines enough to the fellow travellers, then they must drive in a lane system and must take to the Left most lane so that every body moves smoothly and the traffic moves smoothly and the expenditure on Flyovers is justified.
